Summary:
Dr Catherine Laprise is Professor at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC) since 2000 in the fundamental science department. She is member of the Excellency Network AllerGen and of the scientific committee of the Fonds de la recherche du Québec en santé (FRQS). She also directs the Inflammation and remodeling in asthma Strategic group of the FRQS. She holds a Canada Research Chair on genetic determinants in asthma since January 2005.
She published 59 scientific papers and made more than 40 invited presentations around the world. She also participated to several books on asthma and to the organization of several colloquiums. She is particularly concerned about knowledge transfer and participated to the redaction of many popularization tools on genetics (pamphlets, video, expositions, etc.) and have been on the administrative committee of the Corporation de recherche et d’action sur les maladies héréditaires (CORAMH) for several years.
Her researches focused on the identification of genetic variants in asthma, on gene-gene and gene-environment interactions and on the study of these gene’s functions and their roles in asthma. The ultimate objective is to develop more specific diagnostic and therapeutic tools for asthmatic individuals. She also works on several projects about monogenic diseases such as epidermolysis bullosa simplex, lactic acidosis and cystic fibrosis.
