Summary:
The general aim of the group is the preparation of nucleic acid derivatives that will be used to improve a particular aspect of the applications that use oligonucleotides. Specifically research is directed towards the following topics:
1) Synthesis of modified oligonucleotides to be used in the fabrication of molecular circuits based on DNA, bidimensional DNA aarys, Origami DNA.
2) Synthesis of oligonucleotides that contain 8-aminopurines and the study of the stabilizing properties of DNA/RNA triples helices.
3) Rational synthesis of molecules with affinity for double stranded DNA. Structural studies on G-quadruplex.
4) Synthesis of oligonucleotide-peptide and peptide nucleic acid derivatives.
5) Synthesis of oligonucleotides carrying biologically relevant nucleosides involved in DNA repair, DNA methylation, mutagenesis and so on.
